We have manufactured chipboard at the Germersheim (Palatinate region of Germany) location since 1973, however, we were already producing chipboard as early as 1951. Therefore, Rheinspan is the oldest operational chipboard manufacturer in the world. The family-owned company employs approximately 200 employees. The modern chipboard production lines manufacture more than 1,500 m³ of chipboard every day. The largest boards have the maximum dimensions of 2.62 metres x 7.20 metres and, after completion, these are custom cut to the specified customer dimensions.
Capacity of the plant site
550,000 m³/year of raw particleboard, with a thickness of Ø 17 millimetres
9,000,000 m²/year of melamine laminated board
Cutting to size: 380,000 m³/year
Basis for comparison: With the quantity of raw particleboard produced, one could cover the Autobahn from Salzburg, Austria, to Flensburg, Germany – and the melamine laminated board would cover more than 900 football pitches. Moreover, the Germersheim location provides us with a valuable option in regards to logistics: The Container Terminal on the Rhine river is located just eight kilometres distant from the plant – and thereby offers a direct connection to Atlantic Ocean harbours.
